The Preventive Dental Program
Our Preventive Dental Program is intended to assist in the avoidance of the development of new cavities, the maintenance of teeth that have been restored, and the control of periodontal disease. An oral environment that is clean and in which the consumption of potentially harmful foods is minimized is optimal for the survival of both natural teeth and teeth that have been restored. Oral hygiene guidelines are reviewed during the first appointment, and subsequent recall visits are used to reinforce this information. The suggestions and advice that follow are quite useful:
- You should brush your teeth twice a day, focusing on the gums, using a toothbrush with soft bristles and moving the brush in a circular motion.
- Floss every night in an up-and-down motion while keeping the floss in a U-shape and against the tooth surface.
- Avoid smoking
- Avoid sticky sugary foods.
- Eat a balanced diet
- Use antiseptic and fluoride rinses as directed
- Sealants placed on young permanent teeth
